GREENWICH VILLAGE - or, more simply, just the "Village," is recognized as the bohemian capital of the country, and has been home to countless writers, poets, artists, musicians and actors. It is an exciting, vibrant enclave of avant-garde and alternative culture. Dozens of cultural and popular icons got their start in the Village's nightclub, theater, and coffeehouse scene during the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s, notably Barbra Streisand, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, Jackson Browne, Joan Baez, The Velvet Underground, Richie Havens, Maria Muldaur and Jimi Hendrix.

The Village is anchored by Washington Square Park and is home to New York University, whose buildings and students are a major presence in the neighborhood. The area is bounded by Houston Street, 14th Street, Broadway and Hudson Street. The population is upper-middle-class and, because of the student population, relatively young.

As one would expect, the neighborhood is full of restaurants, nightclubs, bars and student hangouts. There are also a number of small, Off-Broadway theaters that put on experimental plays that one can enjoy at a fraction of the cost of a Broadway play. Besides Washington Square Park, where you can find interesting things happening any time of day, the area is dotted with smaller parks and playgrounds.

Within easy walking distance are the neighborhoods of SoHo, Chelsea, Union Square, the West Village and the newly fashionable Meatpacking District, home to some of the City's fanciest, priciest and most celebrity-heavy restaurants.

MIDTOWN EAST - Running roughly from East 30th Street to East 59th Street, this area is known for being a fashionable, cultured neighborhood, conveniently located near many of the city's most popular sights. Home to major artistic attractions such as Carnegie Hall, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Radio City Music Hall and The Museum of Television and Radio, as well as Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the transport hub Grand Central Station and the Roosevelt Island Tram, this is a great location for anyone visiting the Big Apple. It includes large iconic stores such as Bloomingdale's and F.A.O. Schwartz and is also home to world famous constructs such as the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Waldorf Astoria and the United Nations. Bryant Park and the New York Public Library make it a particularly lovely location for families as well.

CHELSEA - Nightlife, art, shopping and recreation - Chelsea has it all. The Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, and the Flatiron Building are all within walking distance. Trendy restaurants, shops and chic art galleries as well as a busy late-night club scene that stretches well into morning, give this exciting neighborhood its exciting reputation, making it an ideal location for visitors looking to experience the more social aspect of life in the big city.

Chelsea's population is young and affluent. Residences consist of a mix of townhouses, prewar co-ops and luxury doorman buildings. The Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, Herald Square, Madison Square Park and the Flatiron Building are all within easy walking distance.

There are a range of conveniently located all-night supermarkets and pharmacies as well as ATMs on every block and subway stations for most major lines, including PATH trains to New Jersey. The neighborhood is dotted with small parks, ideal for escaping the city noise or letting the kids run around and play.

For a change of pace, Chelsea Piers offers a range of physical activities for all ages, such as golf, bowling, skating and rock climbing, and even includes a state-of-the-art fitness center and deluxe spa.
